Volkswagen Goes For 170 MPG

Trying to stretch out the use of fuel is not a new concept. Back in 2002, Volkswagen designed a concept car that could go 100 kilometers on 1 liter of fuel, which is the equivalent of about 235 mpg. In 2010, Volkswagen shows off the second generation of their 1 liter concept, the L1. The German auto maker intends to have it in production by 2013.
By utilizing a light and aerodynamic body design, along with diesel-electric parallel hybrid power train, the new L1 requires a max of 1.38 liters of diesel to cover 100 kilometers, or the equivalent…
