Golf Blue-e-Motion Scores Volkswagen an Electric Win

The fact that electric vehicles form a race of their own is indisputable. But just because they sport unique powertrains doesn't mean they must visibly stand out as well. In fact, the future Volkswagen Golf Blue-e-Motion looks quite similar to other Volkswagen Golf models.

Volkswagen Gets Up!

Volkswagen first introduced their up! concept in 2007, at the Frankfurt Motor Show.  Ever since, we've been hoping to see a production model. Happily, we don't have long to wait. The up! production model will make its world premier at the Grand Palais on the Champs-Elsees in Paris, on August 22.

Given the Volkswagen up!'s modern, yet super-friendly aesthetic, and comfortable seating for four, it's certain to give other cars competing?

German automaker, Volkswagen, recently released their "Think Blue" campaign in the U.S. Via a strategic collection of Web ads and billboards, it's aimed at expanding the debate about how our modern civilization can accommodate people's need for mobility while driving vehicles that reap less damage on the environment than most contemporary cars do today.

If you're wondering why Volkswagen didn't opt instead for  a "Think Green" campaign, it's likely because "Green" is too expected and would likely get drowned out by all the other "Green" messaging out there.  With an air of nostalgia, "Think…

Volkswagen Takes a Shot at The EV Market

If nothing else, Volkswagen is proving they're gutsy. The German automaker doesn't even offer an electric vehicle (EV). Yet, last month, they announced plans to be the world leader in high-volume EVs by 2018.

Audacious? Maybe for a startup. But, when Volkswagen, which just announced record sales profits for the first quarter of 2011 makes such a claim, people tend to sit a little straighter in their seats. For as the saying goes, "He who laughs last, laughs best." And, if everything goes according to their plan, Volkswagen will have the last laugh.

Speaking of their plan...Volkswagen…

Volkswagen Touareg Hybrid

The VW Touareg Hybrid promises to give buyers V8 power with V6 fuel economy. Boosting Touareg's Hybrid's efficiency is its Start/Stop tech: which shuts off the engine completely when you take your foot off the gas, at speeds up to 99 mph. This is a great feature for the roads of Boston.

The Hybrid Touareg is rated at 20 miles per gallon in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. All three Touaregs (base, Sport and Hybrid) are rated at an impressive 7,700 pounds of towing, regardless of engine choice.

The German automaker paired its…

Volkswagen's Electric Taxi Concept

What do you think of when you hear London? To some, images of the infamous London taxi almost immediately drive through their heads. Some of us might also think of smog. But, those common associations could very well change if Volkswagen's newly introduced electric taxi concept is put into gear.

Based around a previous concept from a few years ago, the Volkswagen electric taxi is powered by a 115 horsepower (hp) electric motor fueled by a lithium-ion battery pack. VW claims the concept has a range of about 180 miles, which trumps the Leaf by nearly double. Plus, it…
