Available as a coupe and a sedan, the Golf R will contain a turbocharged, 2-liter, four-cylinder engine and earn a fuel-economy rating of 19 mpg city/27 mpg highway. Standard six-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive maintain the new Volkswagen model's sporty feel and owners can choose between five color variants: Rising Blue, Candy White, Carbon Steel Gray, Black and Tornado Red.

Speaking of outward appearance, the 2012 Volkswagen Golf R exterior displays dashes of slick black paint coating on features such as the redesigned grille and mirrors. VW fans will also spot change in a set of exclusive 18-inch aluminum-alloy wheels, side skirts and large rear spoiler. If you're a driver that desires to go above and beyond the standard, the R model offers an optional power tilt-and-slide sunroof, RNS 315 touchscreen navigation system, keyless locks and ignition and a 300-watt Dynaudio sound system. Sure, these features bump up the cost a bit, but Boston Volkswagen would say they are definitely worth it.
